Window Tint Darkness

Laws pertaining to car window tinting in Arizona were enacted in 1994. They are based on the percentage of light that’s visible through a tinted vehicle window, which is referred to as visible light transmission. For vehicle windows, the following tint regulations apply to sedans, SUVs, and vans:

• Front side windows: 33% light must be let in
• Back side windows: Any tinting level is acceptable
• Rear vehicle windows: No specific requirements

 

For windshields, non-reflective tint is allowed. However, it needs to be above the AS-1 line that’s specified by the manufacturer. This applies to all vehicles.

Window Tint Reflection

Car window tinting in Arizona can also be done in a way that reflects incoming light to reduce glare. For sedans, SUVs, and vans, front side windows cannot be more than 35% reflective. This also applies to back side windows.

Other Tint Regulations

If you opt for tinted back windows, you’ll need to have dual side mirrors. Also, red and amber are the only tint colors specifically not permitted in Arizona. There are medical exemptions, however, for certain types of tinting.
